Detmold, a city of 70,000, offers numerous opportunities for leisure time. Precisely because Detmold is not a well-known metropolis, the town and of its cultural workers are determined to make their mark. Here is just a small sample of regular events:

At Whitsun weekend, the entire town is transformed into an International Street Theatre Festival. At every corner, you will see renowned European artists with various programmes.

The Summer Stage on Marktplatz (market square) invites you to enjoy free concerts of various types of music on several summer weekends.

Selected current films can be seen at the Open-Air Cinema.

The international short film festival in July is a must on your calendar. Here, you can not only make contact with international film people; the films, too, are commendable.

In August, Lippe Culinary promises highlights and delights on the castle grounds.

The Feast for the Ear makes September the right time for a pub crawl through Detmold: Various bands and musicians will be playing at every pub, bar and café.

The world-famous College of Music regularly invites you to concerts, often free. The State Theatre, the Summer Stage, The State Theatre and the Open-Air Theatre also offer an interesting array of culture. The nearby Teutoburger Wald is a favourite for nature lovers.

Tuesday Lectures

In order to open a view to the outside, we invite interesting architects and artists here every second Tuesday, to speak about their work, their philosophy or a topical issue. Thereafter, at the Tuesday Café, there is an opportunity for discussion and exchange.
