facade2011 - SUPER GREEN

Detmold, 25th November 2011

The 6th conference on building envelopes at the University of Applied Sciences in Detmold, Germany  - Hochschule OWL - dealt with the topic of sustainability and its related questions about evaluating and ranking buildings and facades. The topic will be discussed with examples from practice and will also be dealing with research in the field.

Building-owners and constructors have to develop a new awareness of the impact regarding our environment and society of tomorrow, when it comes to decision taking in the named context. Global warming is reality and scientifically proven. CO2 emission is one source for the ongoing change. Building and façade industries are reacting with new schemes for planning and realization of projects. Nationally and internationally, experts are discussing new ways to judge and evaluate the emission of CO2, and are working on establishing new standards. Some approaches aim on the materials used in Building construction, others evaluate the building as a hole.

“Green Building” is booming in a big way, so are the different labels and perceptions of it in the different countries.

How do architectural offices react on this, what does the industry contribute? The conference discusses solid existing strategies, as well as the methods of approach of the participating parties involved in the building process.

The conference language is German and English.

The Future Envelope 5 - Technology Transfer

19. Mai 2011, Delft, Niederlande

Can we actually learn from other disciplines?

An interesting question that will be addressed at this year’s venue of the conference series The Future Envelope, held on 19 May 2011 at the TU Delft, NL.

All around us, new technologies and materials emerge at an unknown rate. However, where other disciplines are advancing, it seems that the building industry is reluctant to pick up new trends. Since we want to stay on top we need to find ways to integrate new developments into the unique and project oriented building discipline.

The conference aims at identifying those areas in which the façade world can learn from other discipline concerned with highly technical products. What are their design strategies and building processes? Are these concepts transferable to an architectural market?

At the occasion of the filth edition of the annual conference The Future Envelope, speakers from disciplines such as industrial design, aerospace design, material technology, façade design and architecture will share their experience and vision about the future building envelope.

The  conference series titled ‘Technology transfer’ is organized by the Façade Research Group of the Faculty of Architecture, TU Delft.

facade 2010 - refurbishment: hightech - lowtech

On November 25th 2010 the conference "facade200x" took place for the sixth time. The conference has developed to a annual meeting place for expertes in the field of building envelopes. It shows research, innovation and state-of-the-art in current facade technolgy. Since 2005 it was held at University of Applied Sciences - Hochschule OWL - in Detmold, Germany. Last year we moved for the first time to our cooperational partners at University of Applied Sciences in Luzern, Swiss.

The conference is part of the Master curriculum for the programme "International Facade Design and Construction" at the University in Detmold.

Further Information and registration can be found on the webpage of HS Luzern. This year's speakers again show alot of expertise in facade engineering. Deadline for registration is November 12th.
