M4 - Facade Comfort and Dimensioning

| Lecturer: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Susanne Schwickert in cooperation with external partners from praxis.
Goal of study / competences: The main goal is to communicate knowledge and skills for an integrative façade design and planning with regard to the ecological and economical aspects of building physics and technical equipment, as well as basic structure elements in particular of its load bearing and deformation behavior.
Contents: A variety of specific building aspects and requirements has to be taken into consideration within this module. The lectures deal with: legal requirements to heat protection, energy saving, solar gains, detail aspects especially thermal bridges, comfort interaction with the façade, integration of technical equipment into the building and façade, sun shading aspects, soundproofing, acoustic effects, classification of structures and loads; abstraction from a real structure to a static system; basic principles of mechanics; beam, frame, truss, cable and arch structures; stress resultants; buckling; strength and deformation behavior of construction materials, dimensioning of façade structures The lectures also deal with the difference of curtain wall technologies and load bearing façades, the loading and constraints acting on façades.
