For more than 40 years the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics (Dpt. 6 of the University of Applied Sciences Ostwestfalen-Lippe) and its precursor departments have been training mechanical engineers. Over the years some 2000 students have graduated, first as ing. (grad.), then as Dipl.-Ing. and now as Bachelor/Master of Science.

Fourteen professors are working and teaching in the department. Other college/university teachers from other departments are engaged when necessary. The department has nine modern, fully equipped laboratories with a total area of 1150 square meters. This is where the team of scientific assistants are doing most of their work. For further information please refer to the Team menu option.

The department offers mechanical engineering, advanced energy technology and mechatronics courses of studies with a bachelor degree and a mechatronics system course of studies with a masters degree, the last two in co-operation with the electrical and information engineering departments. Detailed information can be found here and also under Courses.

For most of the students it has been the start of a successful career. Today, many former students have high-ranking and demanding jobs, especially in companies in the Lippe region. As such, the department can draw on a number of valuable contacts which is fruitful to both the professors and students.

The practical relevance is an extremely important feature. It is assured by many practical training periods woven into the course of studies, by numerous field trips to companies in the region and throughout Germany. The exchange of know-how leads to a close-to-reality training and education. The fact that many local companies are willing to take part in the Co-operativ Studies shows that our graduates are highly appreciated by the companies.
