Dual studies
The Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe offers the opportunity of studying a number of courses according to a special model providing a university education combined with a parallel occupation in a company or an on-the-job training. This particular combination of two different types of education is called dual studies.
The basic idea behind all this is to restrict the presence of all students to four days a week. On the fifth day and during the university holidays students are working in “their” companies where an in-house training takes place or a traineeship contract is concluded ending up in a craft certificate or a certificate of completion of apprenticeship. During the studies the students are progressively integrated into the company’s projects.
For more detailed information on the issue of dual studies please refer to the general pages of the Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe. These pages can be found here.
In the mechanical engineering and mechatronics department the bachelor courses of mechanical engineering and mechatronics studies can be studied according to the dual system without restrictions.
The department is offering the dual studies as from the 2000/2001 winter semester (until 2008 called co-operative studies). In the meantime quite a number of students have successfully completed their dual studies. In most cases the companies involved said that they were extremely pleased with the results of this particular studying model.
